Frequently asked questions
Which work pass do I need to work in Singapore?
Most professionals, managers and executives use the Employment Pass (EP). Skilled workers such as associate professionals and technicians who don't meet the EP criteria may qualify for the S Pass instead. For both, the employer or an employment agent it appoints applies on your behalf.
What salary do I need for an Employment Pass?
At least S$5,600 a month (S$6,200 in financial services), rising with age to S$10,700 (S$11,800) for candidates aged 45 or above. For new applications from 1 January 2027, the starting figure rises to S$6,000 (S$6,600 in financial services).
What is COMPASS?
COMPASS is the points framework Employment Pass applications are assessed on, after the salary check. An application needs 40 points, scored on salary, qualifications, the diversity of the employer's workforce and its support for local employment, with bonus points for roles on the Shortage Occupation List. Candidates earning at least S$22,500 a month are exempt.
How does the S Pass differ?
The S Pass is for skilled workers who may not meet the EP criteria. It needs at least S$3,300 a month (S$3,800 in financial services), rising with age, or S$3,600 (S$4,000) for new applications from 1 January 2027, and employers can only hire S Pass holders within a quota.
How long does an application take?
Most online Employment Pass and S Pass applications are processed or given an update within 10 business days. Before applying for an Employment Pass, the employer must advertise the role on MyCareersFuture.
Are there passes that don't start with a job offer?
Yes, for some people. The Overseas Networks & Expertise (ONE) Pass is a personalised pass for top talent earning at least S$30,000 a month, or with outstanding achievements in areas such as arts and culture, sports, or academia and research. The EntrePass is for entrepreneurs starting a venture-backed or innovative business. The jobs on this page are for the employer-sponsored route.
Do I need to speak Mandarin?
No. Every role on this page is English-only, with no Mandarin required.
Can my family join me in Singapore?
Usually, yes, depending on your salary. Employment Pass and S Pass holders earning a fixed monthly salary of at least S$6,000 can apply for a Dependant's Pass for a legally married spouse and unmarried children under 21.
