Job Title: University Counsellor / Senior University Counsellor Department: Education and Career Guidance and University Counselling (ECG, UC) Office Reports to: Subject Head (UC) Office Start Date: August 2026 University Counselling (UC) Programme The Education and Career Guidance (ECG) and University Counselling (UC) Programme at SISHK aims to build knowledge, nurture skills, and develop the mindset for lifelong learning in our students, preparing them for challenges in an ever-changing world. At SISHK, university counselling goes beyond ensuring that students receive offers from higher education institutions. Overview To accommodate rising student enrollment in the SecDP section, the ECG, UC office is adding a new team member. This role will facilitate extending our education and careers programming to Secondary One students. We are inviting applications for a University Counsellor or Senior University Counsellor to join our dynamic office. The successful applicant is an excellent communicator, a passionate educator at heart, and a “big-picture” team player who collaborates to elevate the quality of work beyond the sum of the collective individual members. Key Responsibilities • Education and Careers Guidance (Secondary One to DP2) • Design and lead the delivery of the education careers guidance curriculum for Secondary One to Four to enable students to work towards self-awareness and career exploration. • Design and run workshops for Grades 7 to 12 students as per the UC curriculum. • Bridge the knowledge and skills gap between lower secondary, upper secondary, and IBDP through facilitating academic guidance conversations. • Guide Grade 8 and Grade 10 students on IGCSE and IB course selection. • Implement careers mentorship programmes that aim to encourage students to explore activities beyond the classroom. • Organize the SISHK Internship Program, Career Day, and career- and subject-specific sessions to connect students with summer programmes, internships, research opportunities, and competitions. • University Counselling (Secondary Three to DP2) • Manage a caseload of IB students from Secondary Three to DP Year Two to provide strategic advice on “best-fit” universities in Asia Pacific, US, UK, etc. • Increase the profile of North American (US and Canada) counselling guidance efforts beyond the “top 50” universities to include other lesser-known universities that are good for the students when assessing fit. • Coach and guide students on preparing a curriculum vitae, portfolio, personal statements/application essays, and cover letters. • Organize the annual Mock Interview Day and prepare students for admission interviews. • Advise and guide students through the application process, and support students on and after IB results day. • Assist and oversee logistic and administrative aspects of the UC applications including transcripts, student profiles, and references. • Working with Stakeholders & University Relations • Conduct UC seminars for parents and meet with families regarding course selection, university, and career planning. • Maintain regular communication with parents and the PTA to ensure they are informed about students’ life planning activities. • Attend conferences and events to promote SISHK to the HE community. • Organise the school’s Higher Education Fairs and information sessions regarding application processes and pathways. • Administration and School-Wide Involvement • Coordinate the SAT administration. • Compile information and create materials (e.g., website, flyers, emails, circulars, student handbooks) to inform parents and students about talks and programmes. • Write references to support applications and provide guidance/support for teachers in writing references. • Be part of the school-wide programme deployment effort in school camps, overseas trips, IGCSE or IBDP exam invigilation, and other school committees where necessary.
