Job Title: Freelance Database Specialist (MongoDB Subject Matter Expert)Job Type: Freelance /Location: RemoteEngagement: project-basedDuration: make deliverable on time About the RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled Freelance Database Specialist to take ownership of our MongoDB infrastructure. You will be responsible for the health, performance, and security of our database environment. This role is ideal for a self-driven expert who can not only execute administrative tasks but also provide strategic advice on architecture and optimization.Key ResponsibilitiesDatabase Administration & Management· Install, configure, and maintain MongoDB instances (Replica Sets and Sharded Clusters) across Development, Staging, and Production environments.· Manage database access, user roles, and authentication mechanisms.· Perform regular backups (mongodump, Ops Manager, or Cloud Manager) and rigorously test disaster recovery restore procedures.· Monitor database health and performance using tools like MongoDB Cloud Manager, Prometheus, or Grafana.Performance Tuning & Optimization· Analyze slow queries using the explain() method and optimize them through effective indexing strategies.· Manage index creation and deletion to balance read performance against write penalties.· Optimize schema design (embedding vs. referencing) to align with application access patterns.· Troubleshoot locking, memory usage, and I/O bottlenecks.Architecture & Strategy· Advise on schema design best practices for scalability.· Plan and execute database upgrades and migrations (both on-premise and Atlas).· Implement and maintain security best practices (encryption at rest, TLS/SSL, VPC peering, IP whitelisting).· Design and implement sharding strategies as data volume grows.Collaboration & Support· Work closely with backend developers to review code for database efficiency.· Provide guidance on aggregation pipelines and complex query construction.· Document database architecture, processes, and runbooks.Required Qualifications· Experience: 4+ years of proven experience as a Database Administrator (DBA) or Database Engineer, with a specific focus on MongoDB.· MongoDB Expertise: Deep understanding of MongoDB internals (WiredTiger storage engine, oplog, replica set elections).· Cloud Experience: Hands-on experience with MongoDB Atlas (preferred) or self-managed instances on AWS/Azure/GCP.· Scripting: Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash) and at least one programming language (Python, JavaScript/Node.js, or Go) for automation.· Backup/Recovery: Demonstrated experience in designing and executing disaster recovery plans.· Security: Strong knowledge of database security protocols and compliance standards.Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)· Experience with Kubernetes and the MongoDB Kubernetes Operator.· Familiarity with Terraform or infrastructure-as-code tools.· Experience migrating from SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL) to NoSQL.· MongoDB Certified DBA Associate or Professional certification.Deliverables & Success Metrics· Uptime: Maintain 99.9% database availability.· Performance: Reduce average query response time by [X%].· Documentation: Provide a comprehensive "State of the Database" report at the end of the engagement.· Automation: Implement automated monitoring alerts for critical database events.How to ApplyPlease submit your proposal including:1.
