Job Description

Company Description Masaka School for the Deaf is an education-focused organization dedicated to providing nursery, primary, and basic vocational education to children with special needs, especially profoundly deaf and hearing-impaired learners. The school offers a rich curriculum that integrates co-curricular activities such as sports, music, dance, and drama to support holistic development. It runs several initiatives to empower families to offer consistent care, love, and support, including the #SponsorAChildProgram# supporting children from marginalized families. The school also operates #KizangaCoffee#, an agribusiness project that helps fund teacher salaries and student welfare, and #SignLanguageForAll#, which equips parents, guardians, and sponsors with basic sign language skills to improve communication with deaf children. Role Description The Field Water Quality Tester is a full-time, on-site role based in Hong Kong. The role involves visiting various field locations to collect water samples from wells, taps, reservoirs, and other sources relevant to the school and surrounding communities. The Field Water Quality Tester conducts on-site and laboratory tests to measure key parameters such as pH, turbidity, temperature, dissolved oxygen, and contaminants, and accurately records and interprets results. This position also requires preparing clear reports, communicating findings to supervisors and stakeholders, and recommending corrective actions when water quality does not meet safety standards. The Field Water Quality Tester follows established safety protocols, maintains testing equipment, and collaborates with school staff and local partners to support safe water access for learners and their families. Qualifications • Foundational knowledge of environmental science, chemistry, or a related field, with practical understanding of water quality standards and testing methods. • Experience with field sampling techniques, operation and basic maintenance of water testing equipment, and accurate data collection and documentation. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret test results, identify trends, and propose evidence-based recommendations. • Effective communication skills to explain technical findings in clear language to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. • Ability to work on-site in varied outdoor conditions, travel between testing locations, and follow strict health, safety, and hygiene protocols. • Attention to detail, reliability, and integrity in handling data, samples, and reporting, with a commitment to safeguarding children and communities. • Relevant diploma or degree in environmental science, water resources, public health, or a similar discipline; professional certifications in water quality testing are an advantage. • Prior experience in fieldwork or community-based projects, and familiarity with working alongside schools or non-profit organizations is beneficial.
